Promise
A young woman aged 14-18 who demonstrates a commitment to high personal standards

Abigail Leigh Bennett

Nominated by Charlotte McMinn

Charlotte says, “In August 2005, at the age of 17, Abby left her family, her network of friends, and all things familiar in Starkville, to pursue her dream as an aspiring student of classical ballet at Ballet Magnificat School of the Arts in Jackson. At that time she enrolled as a junior at Jackson Prep and settled in to live with a host family. Her journey to that point can only be described as miraculous. In February 2004, Abby was diagnosed with scoliosis and her future as a ballerina looked grim. Yet Abby and her parents spent long hours in prayer clinging to hope and their strong faith in God’s sovereign control in spite of what appeared to be a hopeless situation. Abby worked through the pain and much to the amazement of her doctors and surgeons, she became stronger and the ballet dancing brought healing to her “C” shaped spine. Academically, Abby has not chosen the easy way out since enrolling at Prep, but rather a demanding academic curriculum of Honors and AP courses. She does this while balancing a grueling practice schedule after school at Ballet Magnificat. I believe Abby is destined for great things and I am blessed to have crossed paths with this outstanding young woman.”
