A Celebration of Strong Women

What is a "Strong Woman?" Strong Women come in all ages, races and walks of life. They may not necessarily be well known and no two may be alike, but all Strong Women have one thing in common: simply observing their lives inspires us to be better people.

Strong Women are everywhere in our midst. They are in homes, schools, churches, the workplace. They are ordinary women leading extraordinary lives.

To honor outstanding women in our area, this spring Baptist for Women will pay tribute to five women selected from nominations submitted by members of the community. The winners will be announced on May 6, 2010 during "A Celebration of Strong Women," an event hosted by Baptist, Lifetime Television for Women, and Comcast Spotlight. Nominees will be judged by a distinguished panel of women, including members of Baptist's Volunteers, Women's staff and other community leaders. Nominations will be accepted through April 8, 2010.

Winners will be selected in the following categories:

Defender
One who champions the cause of a disadvantaged person or group

Leader
One who inspires others to take action for a common good

Mentor
One who invests herself in helping another as a counselor, role model, helper or encourager

Perseverance
One who has overcome personal adversity

Promise
A young woman aged 14-18 who demonstrates a commitment to high personal standards
The winner of the "Promise" award will be eligible for college scholarships to Belhaven University and Hinds Community College.
