Defender
One who champions the cause of a disadvantaged person or group

Conchetia Evans

Nominated by her friends, Tawana A. Tucker and Carolyn Riley

Tawana and Carolyn say, “Mrs. Evans is a perfect example of a defender of life. She devoted her life to caring for her mentally disabled sister. She is a woman that is inspiring, strong-willed and determined to do God's work. She is an evangelist at her church, a wife and a mother of four. Even though her sister lived in a nursing care facility, Mrs. Evans spent countless hours with her making sure her every need was met. She often put herself last but many times she also put her children and husband aside to accommodate her sister's requirements. To make sure that her sister was able to enjoy God's Word, she held Sunday School services at the nursing home where her sister lived. She put herself on a 24-hour call for the nursing home and made arrangements with the nursing home that if her sister was ever admitted to the hospital, she was to never be alone. Many times she would come to the nursing home to care for her sister at all hours of the night. She missed many out-of-town trips and cut many vacations short to make sure that her sister's health care was priority.”
