Services within the Hederman Cancer Center include
- Cancer Center Navigator: Designated to serve as the Center's single point of contact for patients and caregivers, the Navigator's purpose is to make it easy for patients and their families to access services and information. The Navigator assesses the needs of both patients and caregivers; directs them to appropriate support services; and educates patients and caregivers on any issues related to a patient's diagnosis. The Navigator also coordinates all cancer support groups and activities. Contact the Navigator at 601-973-1607.
- Cancer Patient Orientation Program:
Baptist Cancer Services provides a patient orientation program that gives patients a complete overview of cancer treatment, combining information about radiation therapy, chemotherapy, nutrition and several other important topics. The program is offered twice a week. During orientation, each participant receives a handbook that contains all the information from the class, along with a calendar for recording doctors’ appointments; website resources; and a place to record their lab work, weight, and other information. The handbook is a useful tool for patients to use to keep all their information in one place and to make note of questions they want to ask their physicians on the days they have appointments.
- Emotional and Spiritual Support: Support Groups meet periodically in the center and provide a source for information and encouragement for patients and family members. Baptist's Pastoral Care department provides spiritual support and emotional care through counseling, prayer and worship opportunities for patients and family members.
