Celebrating The Next 100 Years

First Patients Move into Baptist’s New Tower
Jackson, Miss. - January 12, 2009 – Baptist’s new tower, housing the Cardiovascular Center and Baptist for Women officially opened for patient care today, as patients from six units transferred into the new facility early this morning.

Patients from Units 3A, 3B, CCU, 4D, the Well Baby Nursery and the NICU were all transferred between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Dawn Davis, RN, the Patient Move Coordinator, said "Everything went smoothly. Everybody worked as a team.”

Also opened this morning is the new boulevard to the Baptist for Women entrance. Access to this entrance is from State Street between Manship and Fortification streets.

A ribbon cutting and dedication of the new tower was held on Sunday, November 2, 2008. Baptist Health Systems, Inc. began the countdown to its 100-year anniversary with the ground breaking of a new tower connected to the west side of Baptist Medical Center on September 25, 2006. Patients at Baptist Medical Center were part of history as they were transferred from rooms in the current facility to rooms in a new $80 million, six-level tower attached to the west side of the hospital. The addition of this 205,000 square feet new tower, which houses the Cardiovascular Center and Baptist for Women, marks the 100-year anniversary of the hospital’s operation on this site in Jackson.
