Baptist Nutrition Center Helps Ridgeland Resident in Weight Loss Challenge for “People Magazine;” Nutrition Center opens additional location in Madison

July 7, 2008 - Jackson, Miss. - “People Magazine” is hosting its first “Weight Loss Challenge” and selected eight people from Mississippi for the challenge. One contestant, Robert Dyess, of Ridgeland, is a client of the Baptist Nutrition Center. ABC News is doing a feature segment to air in October and has been following the contestants and documenting their weight loss plan. Clinical Dietitian Lauren Magee, RD, LD, and Behavioral Counselor Amy Brooks, LPAT, ATR-BC, are working with Dyess on his weight loss plan. ABC News spent an afternoon in February 2008 video taping a typical day with Dyess at the Nutrition Center in Jackson.

In addition, Baptist’s Nutrition Center opened an additional office on June 9, 2008, in the Madison medical office facility in Madison, Miss. It is opened on Mondays and Thursdays and has a Gluckstadt resident, Martha Dickens, MD, as the medical director. Also on staff are a licensed behavioral counselor and dieticians.

Programs in Madison include individual nutrition counseling and individual behavioral counseling, in which Dyess has participated. It also offers the New Directions and Outlook Weight Management Programs. The Nutrition Center has been in business since 1994 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.
