Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss. is the only hospital in the state to offer the minimally invasive Lone Atrial Fibrillation Ablation often referred to as a “mini-maze” procedure. May 22 - As More Baby Boomers Head to the Operating Table, Virtual Reality Aids Surgeons in Joint Replacements
Baby boomers are requiring surgery earlier and more often than previous generations because they lead more active lives and want to continue being active. Orthopedic surgeons at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., are among the first in the Metro Jackson area to use computers to help pinpoint perfect alignment for knee and hip replacements, and more recently, hip resurfacing procedures. Like global position systems (GPS) help drivers arrive at exact destinations in the world, a similar computer-assisted surgery helps surgeons align the patient's bones and replacement implants with a degree of accuracy not possible with the naked eye or traditional instrumentation. :: back to top

May 21 - Construction Milestone Reached as Baptist Connects Tower to Existing Hospital
A major construction event for the new tower has been reached with preparations under way to connect the new tower to the existing facility. There will be tie-ins on the 4th, 2nd, 1st floors and the Lower Level. This year’s keynote speaker is Kristi Brown, author, "Top 40 Under 40" recipient and cancer survivor. May 13 - Baptist’s New Adolescent Chemical Dependency Program Offers Free Initial Assessment
Last month, a private school in the metro Jackson area made news by requiring all students and their dates to pass a breathalyzer test before they could enter the school’s prom. Given the well-documented use and abuse of drugs and alcohol among teenagers, the school’s strategy is not surprising. But without a breathalyzer, how can parents know if their kids have a drug or alcohol problem?

March 5 - Baptist Changes Traffic Routes for Patient Drop Off and Visitor Parking
One side of the boulevard at the main hospital entrance at North State and Manship streets will be closed, and this entrance will become two-way traffic only. This entrance will be limited to patient drop-off and pick-up only. Guests and visitors not dropping off a patient should enter the campus from North State Street at the entrance located just south of the Medical Arts West building. :: back to top
