Jackson, Miss. – October 27, 2006 – Madison The City Chamber of Commerce celebrated extraordinary women in its first annual desk calendar as a means of honoring women’s accomplishments while encouraging other women to strive to reach their own potential. Women were chosen for their talents and leadeship skills to make contributions in business, government, the arts, education, health care and community service.

Baptist chose four women for this honor:
Janice Myrick, MT, (ASCP), Baptist Laboratory Technical Specialist:
Worked at Baptist 39 years.

Myrick decided at about 15 years old she wanted to be in medicine. All of her science, biology, chemistry and math were her favorite classes. She thought it would be a fascinating field and always changing. It would be an opportunity to help others.

Myrick’s goal is always to be the best that she can. Everything Baptist’s Lab does is important to someone. Also, everyday she tries to be patient and kind. She said, “In healthcare, we need to always be aware not only of the patient, but also the patient's family. They are often frightened and totally dependent on our skills and abilities. They look to us to make their family member well or at least better. I always try to pay special attention to the family members.”

Bobbi Ford, RN, Baptist 6th Floor Nursing Clinical Director:
Worked at Baptist 21 years.

Ford chose nursing wanting and hoping to make a difference in people's lives, whether it be the patient's, families, visitors, immediate co-workers or other departments. She added, “As a nurse we have the ability to impact patient care so that our patient's will have great outcomes.”

Ford is currently working on Masters of Science in Nursing with an emphasis in leadership. “I have been wanting to do this for many years and decided the time was right to pursue my masters degree,” Ford said.

Ella Jackson, RN, Case Manager for the Oncology Unit:
Worked at Baptist for 33 years.

According to Jackson, she always wanted to be a pediatric nurse. She spent 25 years as a pediatric nurse at Baptist and never entertained the idea of any other profession. “An added bonus has been working in an institution with a strong visible Christian foundation,” Jackson said. I have particularly enjoyed working with people and serving on committees whose goals and responsibility are to preserve and advance that foundation.“ Since 1998, Jackson has worked as case manager. This role has served even more to bridge the connection between patient's needs at discharge and the many resources in the community.

Jackson’s goal is to continue to pursue the calling of being a catalyst in leading people into a greater degree of health and well'-being perhaps through Faith-based ministries that decreases the gap of health disparities and increases access to healthcare for those who need it.

Meredith Travelstead, MD, OB-GYN:
Worked 5 Years at The Woman's Clinic

Dr. Travelstead stated since she was young she knew she wanted to do something exciting, but something in which she could help and connect to people. “I have definitely found this to be true in the medical field, and that is why I became a doctor.”

Dr. Travelstead said her personal goal is to be more like Christ. “My desire is to live out the love of Jesus Christ in everything I do, especially in my career,” she added.
