Jackson, Miss. - June 28, 2004-Skin cancer is quickly becoming a risk many Americans face every time they step into sun. According to the American Academy of Dermatology more than 1 million new cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed this year. The difference between most skin cancer and other types of cancer is that the cause is known-too much sun exposure.

Baptist Cancer Services will hold a free skin screening on July 24. If there is a concern about suspicious warts, moles or sunspots, let Baptist help put your mind at ease. The screenings are for individuals 18 years and older to examine their skin for cancer risks. Participants with concerns about rashes or minor skin irritations and those already under the care of a physician are not eligible.

Physicians participating include: The Clinic of Plastic Surgery - William H. Wallace, MD; Plastic & Hand Surgery Associates - R. Scott Runnels, MD; Dermatologists - Gary G. Bolton, MD, William H. Burrow, III. MD and Joseph H. Robinson, MD; and Plastic Surgeon - Suman K. Das, MD.

All screenings will take place at 1227 North State Street at the Hederman Cancer Center from 9a.m. to noon. The screenings are by appointment only and registration is required.

For more information and to register, call the Baptist Health Line at (601) 948-6262 or 1-800-948-6262.
