Baptist Health Systems Hosts 7th Annual Scholar-Athlete Luncheon, Honoring Local High School Athletes

Jackson, Miss. - August 3, 2004 - Baptist Health Systems recently held its 7 th Annual Scholar-Athlete Luncheon at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.

Each year, Baptist recognizes high school seniors from area high schools based on high academic and athletic achievement. Below is a listing of this year's honorees:

Forest Hill High School
Latoya Weathersby was voted Student Body President at Forest Hill. She's a member of the National Honor Society, Who's Who Among American High School Students, and Mu Alpha Theta. Weathersby served as captain of the tennis team and drum major of the superior award-winning band.

Greg Anderson was named Mr. Forest Hill, Most Influential, Most Intellectual, and is a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students. Anderson made the All-City and All-Capital District Band and was voted captain of the Rebel baseball team.

Jackson Academy
Stephanie Henson was named to the Miss Jackson Academy Hall of Fame. She received the President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, the Outstanding Students of America Award, and the Ray Higgins Award for highest GPA while lettering in at least 2 varsity sports. Stephanie belongs to Who's Who Among American High School Students, the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Student Council. At JA, she was a member of the cross-country team and the overall state champion basketball team as a sophomore. She was named All-star and served as Co-head of the cheerleading squad and in tennis, earned the Anthony Kalantzis Award and was a member of several championship girls doubles teams.

Tyler Winford was named to the Jackson Academy Hall of Fame. He belonged to Mu Alpha Theta, Who's Who, Elite Students of America and the National Honor Society. Winford also served as the Junior and Senior class Vice President and President of the Pre Med Society. As a captain for the football, basketball, and baseball teams, Winford racked up all conference honors in each sport. In basketball, he was also named MPSA player of the year, Honorable Mention All-State, and MVP for the North All Star team.

Jackson Prep
Adams Yerger is a National Merit Finalist, and belongs to the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. He participated in Track, Baseball, and Basketball where he was named Best Defensive player.

Jim Hill High School
Britney Berry earned the Leadership in Business Award at Jim Hill. She's a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. In soccer, Britney earned Defensive Player of the year honors along with District 4 MVP and Jim Hill MVP honors.

Lorenzo Bailey is a member of Student Council, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Mu Alpha Theta, and the National Honor Society. He earned the Tiger Award, Best Defensive Player, All-District and All-South State tournament honors in basketball, All District honors in Cross country and also lettered in Track and Baseball.

Madison Central High School
Nick Hardy served as Sr. Class Secretary at Madison Central. He won the Jaguar Spirit Award, was named Class Favorite, and Most Athletic. Hardy lettered 3 years in baseball, earned All-district honors and was named to the All-Star team. Nick's earned a baseball scholarship to Meridian Community College.

Madison Ridgeland Academy
Kimberly Hannan was named Valedictorian at MRA. She's a member of the Dean's list and the National Honor Society. Kimberly was named to the All-Tournament basketball team and in softball, earned All-conference and Team MVP honors and was voted to the All-star game.

Murrah High School
Diamond Rogers is a member of the National Honor Society. She earned MVP honors for Murrah in volleyball and in basketball was named the Clarion Ledger's Metro Player of the Year, Murrah's MVP and MVP and 3-point shootout winner of the MS/Alabama All-Star game. She has a full scholarship to the university of Alabama in Birmingham.

Alance McKinney was named a JROTC Top Scholar, a MSHAA Scholar Athlete and earned the Presidential Scholar's Award and the Presidential Fitness Award. He lettered in Track and Field and in Football, where he earned Murrah's best defensive back award.

Pearl High School
Adrian Wright is a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students. He participated in Soccer and was a member of Pearl's state championship Track and Cross Country teams.

Provine High School
Emily Bolls is a High Honor Roll Student and a 4-year letter winner in softball. She also participated in Track and Field and Basketball.

Malcolm Conley is a member of Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta, and the National Honor Society. He earned the Black History Heritage Award and the Blitz 16 Scholar Athlete Award. Conley participated in Tennis, Track, and served as Senior Captain for the Football and Soccer Teams.

St. Joseph Catholic High School
Kiely Lavery is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, Student Council, and the Service Club. As a State Champion swimmer, Lavery lettered 4 years, served as Team Captain, and was named Most Athletic.

Hunter Blanks is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Math & Science Team. In Baseball, Blanks has earned Most Improved, Best Defensive Player, MVP and All-district honors and has earned a scholar ship to the university of Alabama Huntsville.

Terry High School
Meggan Prince belongs to the National Honor Society and Who's Who Among American High School Students. She was named captain and MVP of the Fast-pitch and Slow-pitch softball teams and MVP and Gatorade Player of the Year in Soccer.

Josh Butler is a member of the National Honor Society. He earned letters in football, soccer and baseball. In baseball, Butler earned the Academic Award, the Hustle Award and Most Stolen Bases Award. In soccer, he earned the sportsmanship award and the District 6-4A Defensive Player of the Year Award.

University Christian School
Justin Kennon was named to the UCS Hall of Fame. He served as President of the Student Council and is a member of the National Honor Society. Kennon lettered in football and in soccer, where he earned a scholarship to Delta State University.

Wingfield High School
Na'tasha Tatum made the National Honor roll and belongs to the National Honor Society, Student Council, Who's Who Among American High School Students, and the Wingfield Hall of Fame. She also serves as Vice President of the Mayor's Youth Council, Senior Representative of the Directions Youth Outreach Ministries and received the Role Model Award and the Most Scholarly Attitude Award. Tatum lettered in volleyball and tennis at Wingfield.
