Baptist Adult Day Celebrates Daisy Reddix's 104th Birthday Today

Jackson, Miss. - April 12, 2004 - Baptist Adult Day Health Services - Northtown salutes Daisy Reddix on her 104 th birthday on April 12, 2003 from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Special guests will include about 40 of her adult daycare friends. Baptist Adult Day Health Services - Northtown is located at 6250 Old Canton Road in Jackson, Miss.

Reddix was born April 10, 1900 in Jamaica where her father grew coffee beans on the side of the mountain. Her late husband, Dr. Jacob Reddix, served as the first President of Jackson State University under the state's administration for 27 years. Her husband's portrait was unveiled at the Old Capitol on May 9, 2003 for the "Mississippi Hall of Fame."

She was the youngest of 12 children. After her mother died, she came to America at the age of 19 with a cousin. She obtained her high school diploma and her citizenship. She met her future husband when she was 20 years young, and they courted for 8 years.

Reddix obtained her BA degree at JSU and worked in their business office. She now resides with her only child in Jackson, Miss. She also has one granddaughter and two great-grandsons who all live in Ohio.

Her interests included being a master seamstress, working on ceramics, church and reading. Reddix has been attending Baptist Adult Day Health Services - Northtown since October 2002. She comments with a smile that it is a lovely place to attend for social activities and that everyone is very nice.
