Mississippi Physician Attends Launch of American Heart Month by Laura Bush

Jackson, Miss. - February 17, 2004 - Patricia Lawson, M.D., joined other health care professionals from across the nation at the White House on February 2, 2004. First Lady Laura Bush hosted a special meeting and launched February as American Heart Month and focused on the fact that heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States.

Dr. Lawson is the medical director for Baptist Women's Heart, a division of Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss. She represented the Mississippi Heart Truth campaign at the White House event.

The Mississippi Heart Truth is part of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and partner organizations' sponsorship of the national campaign called The Heart Truth . The goal is to give women a personal and urgent wake-up call about their risk of heart disease.
