Baptist Cancer Services Library Named In Honor of Significant Donors Contact: Robby Channell, 601-968-5135 rchannell@mbhs.org Jackson, Miss. - July 20, 2004 -- The Hederman Cancer Center Resource Library has been named in honor of Alvis and Mary Hunt, who made a significant contribution to Baptist Cancer Services. The Hunts are long-time supporters of Baptist. In 1974, Mr. Hunt led the fundraising efforts for Baptist's Radiation Oncology Unit. The Hunts are heavily involved in the Campaign for Baptist Cancer Services. Alvis Hunt has served on Baptist's Board of Trustees as well as the Board of Directors, Board of Regents and Campaign Cabinet. "Mr. Hunt has been a integral part of this campaign," said Baptist Health Systems President and CEO Kurt W. Metzner. "Not only has he made a sizable contribution, but he has encouraged countless others to give. He is a veteran fundraiser and driving force in this campaign." Baptist Cancer Services established the Resource Library in the Hederman Cancer Center, which opened in 2002, giving patients access to information about all types of cancer. "Upon being diagnosed with cancer, patients are looking for information and resources to learn about their illness," Baptist Cancer Services Director Bobbie Ware, RN said. "This library is an important resource for our patients." Baptist is well on the way toward the $15 million fundraising campaign goal that was officially launched with the visit of former President George Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush's visit in May 2003.
