Jackson, Miss. -September 20, 2004 - Baptist Adult Day Health Services Clinton, Miss location and North Jackson location celebrates five years of service to the Metro Jackson community. Mississippi Department of Human Services-Division of Aging and Adult Services - Central Mississippi Planning and Development District Area Agency on Aging joins Baptist Adult Day Health Services stressing the importance of services and programs for senior citizens.

An informal press briefing will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21 at Baptist Adult Day Health Services, 6250 Old Canton Road, Jackson, Miss. The briefing focuses on four issues: a celebration of five years of service, the importance of adult day care centers, the varying issues surrounding the growing aging adult population, and the critical need for continued funding of aging programs and initiatives.

Adult day health services are designed to improve the quality of life for the elderly and their family members by providing and managing a daily program of health services in an enjoyable, stimulating environment. According to Dixie Myrick, administrator of the Baptist Adult Day Health Services, adult day programs provide a needed service to family members who are caring for a loved one.

"Programs like these give family members a needed break away from caregiving and provides the recipient an exciting, therapeutic activity program that can also meet their health care needs. Adult day programs provide one of the most effective and least expensive ways for families to manage the care of their loved one," stated Myrick.

Baptist Adult Day Health Services is a partner of Senior Care Centers of America. Adult Day works closely on various funding sources with the Mississippi Department of Human Services-Division of Aging and Adult Services CMPDD Area Agency on Aging.

"As we honor their five years of services, it is important for us to realize how our aging population is growing and changing," said Betty Burgess, CMPDD Area Agency on Aging director . "A stronger demand for services will necessitate a more urgent need for continued funding of these programs."

Baptist Adult Day celebrates its anniversary with an "open house" for clients, their families and staff. For more information on Baptist Adult Day Health Services, call (601) 956-7794 or visit www.mbhs.org.
