Dr. Charles Secrest, First in the US to Perform Updated Treatment to Control Stress Incontinence

Jackson, Miss. - September 29, 2003 - Charles Secrest, M.D. with the Mississippi Urology Clinic, is the first physician in the country to perform the Durasphere Ò EXP procedure to help control stress urinary incontinence in women. This procedure is an updated version of the Durasphere TM and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in early September 2003.

The difference in this product is that it uses smaller carbon beads that are easier to inject. Dr. Secrest emphasized that this procedure is performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. It is performed in the Baptist Continence Clinic.

It is an improved product allowing for easier application in a shorter amount of time," Dr. Secrest said. "There is about a 25 percent decrease in the amount of time it takes to perform the procedure."

He performed the first US procedure on September 8, 2003. He noted that the patient had good results. "We hope that this will translate into better results in terms of curing stress urinary incontinence," he said.
