New Occupational Medical Clinic Offers One-Stop-Shop for Employee Health, Wellness in Madison County

The only occupational medical clinic in Mississippi to utilize the ERGOS® Work Stimulator, considered the most versatile and comprehensive functional capacity evaluation system available for safely conducting pre-employment screenings and matching workers to jobs.

Jackson, Miss. – February 28, 2002 —Baptist Corporate Health Services and Baptist Medical Clinics, services of Baptist Health Systems in Jackson, Miss., opened the new Baptist Occupational Medical Clinic – Gluckstadt, located at 118 Weisenberger Road, Suite 101 in Gluckstadt, Miss. in February 2003. The clinic is exclusively devoted to occupational medicine for large and small businesses and industries in Madison County and the surrounding area.

Baptist Corporate Health Services serves several of the Tier One Companies in Madison County and numerous businesses and industries utilize Baptist's occupational health services.

A variety of occupational medical services are available through Baptist Corporate Health Services. Employment screenings include pre-employment and post-offer physicals, audiometric and vision testing. Various drug testing methods can be performed for employers as well. The clinic utilizes a computerized workers' compensation tracking program to efficiently treat work related injuries and return employees to work as soon as possible.

The clinic offers the latest occupational medical technology. Cotton added that the new ERGOS® Work Stimulator is considered the most versatile and comprehensive functional capacity evaluation system available for safely conducting pre-employment screenings and matching workers to jobs. The ERGOS® system measures physical and functional capacities of a worker as they relate to work performance. It is based on standards developed by the U.S. Department of Labor, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, American National Standards Institute, and Methods Time Measurement, an internationally accepted work measurement system.

The NC-Stat nerve conduction monitoring system provides a cost effective, rapid assessment of nerve disorders, such as those caused by repetitive stress injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome. The NC-Stat systems was developed by NeuroMetrix and is used for point-of-care testing of neuromuscular disorders. Cotton stated that using the non-invasive system is quick and convenient for the patient.

"Time away from work is minimal because it is performed in the clinic," she said.

STIX software is an occupational health and safety clinical records and management program. This program provides documentation on clinical services and outcomes. It generates various reports including monthly reviews of case activity, injury analysis and lost time, employee no-shows and cancellations. Employers can utilize reports generated by the system as an internal mechanism to better manage worker compensation claims.

The clinic is staffed by certified personnel specially trained in occupational medicine. A dedicated account representative serves as a point of contact for each corporate client. Other perks include corporate discounts to the Healthplex, health and wellness programs with individual health profiles for employees, health risk management programs, physician referral, employee assistance and on-site services.
