Baptist Behavioral Health Transitions CDC Program to Outpatient Services, Geropsychiatrice Program Relocates to Baptist Medical Center

Jackson, Miss. - December 18, 2003 - Beginning in December 2003, Baptist's chemical dependency program will be provided in an outpatient setting, with detoxification care provided at Baptist Medical Center. Outpatient services including partial, day and evening outpatient therapy, the family program, relapse prevention, aftercare and assessments, will move from the Gilfoy Building and relocate to 800 Carlisle Street, Jackson, Miss.

Baptist's Geropsychiatric Program will also move from the Gilfoy Building to the fifth floor of Baptist Medical Center and will continue to operate inpatient services.

"We believe that outpatient addiction treatment services are and will remain a viable treatment service for individuals battling an addiction. This includes intensive individual therapy sessions, group therapy and outpatient detoxification," Baptist Behavioral Health Services Director Naome Kobayakawa. "Nationally, we see the majority of health care facilities moving their chemical dependency programs to an outpatient service program with a three to five day inpatient detoxification services."

Baptist established its Chemical Dependency Program in 1976 as an integrated clinical and Twelve-step spiritual treatment program. The program offers treatment for people who suffer from the disease of chemical dependency resulting from alcohol and/or drug abuse.
